A Word with Mrs. Albright

Edith invited herself to tea, which in Marrowdale is a recognized form of interrogation, and watched Mrs. Albright's hands while they talked about the weather. The thermos was nowhere in the kitchen. Edith mentioned it casually, the green tartan one, such a distinctive thing, and Mrs. Albright said she had no idea what Edith meant, and poured the tea, and her hands were perfectly steady, which Edith found far more interesting than if they had shaken.
